How to deal with outdoor cables?

3.1.3-1As the saying goes, “Accidents, big or small, avoid them all you.” Special care needs to be taken around electricity outdoors. Whether you are working or playing near it, or using electrical equipment, it is important to be aware of the dangers. Everything we use around us works on electric current, it is very much necessary to maintain safety guidelines.

Before you start any work near power lines or underground cables, arrange a visit from electricity retailer to identify any problems or disconnect the supply. This work might be painting your house, trimming trees, cleaning guttering, replacing spouting or roofing, repairing chimneys or excavating a property.

Never touch overhead power lines, underground cables, or the bare conductors that connect them to the house, as this could be fatal.

Safety tips for Outdoors

  • Never store material under power wires and reduce the clearance height. Remember that children are fond of climbing, and wires look tempting.
  • Before starting work on a roof, make sure no aerial lines pass overhead. If they do, arrange with your electricity retailer to have them protected, or isolated before starting work.
  • A power line that has fallen to the ground should be treated as live, contact your electricity supplier immediately. Do not touch the line, and warn your family members and neighbors.

Safe clearances

Safe clearances between building work and power lines minimize the risk of electric shock, fire, power cuts, or damage to property and power lines.

The minimum safe clearance between power lines and buildings depends on the voltage of the power line and the type of conductor. Types of power lines can usually be recognized by their construction and by the type of insulator or number of disc insulators which separate the power line from the power pole or tower.

You can browse through the LAPP, cable manufacturers in India for protective cables. Prior to any planned construction, a process for establishing safe distances from power lines must be undertaken to comply with this code of practice.

You must check with your electricity supplier to find out what the power line voltage is so you can establish the right clearance.

Using electrical tools and equipment outside

Take special precautions when you use electrical appliances outdoors or in a damp environment. Electrical equipment and appliances used outside include electric lawn mowers, weed eaters, water blasters, and power tools.

  • Never use any damaged appliances or equipment with damaged leads outdoors. Visually check the cords for any cuts or damage to the cord, and run your hand down its length to feel for cracks or damage. If you find a problem, don’t use the equipment until the cord is professionally repaired or replaced.
  • Never use them in rainy or wet conditions.
  • Always use a residual current device (RCD) or an isolating transformer. These protect you from a fatal electric shock by cutting the current if there is an electrical problem.
  • Keep children and pets a safe distance away when you operate a mower or any other electrical equipment.
  • Wear strong protective footwear when working with electrical appliances or tools outside, do not work in jandals or bare feet.

Keep cords and electrical equipment away from any metal that can catch or cut it, for example, metal ladders, garage workbenches, metal roofs and garden fences. Mentioned guidelines would help you avoid any possible accidents.

High-speed ETHERLINE® cables make assembly even easier

2017-12-10

If a cable ages or is damaged in a machine or control cabinet, it usually has to be replaced quickly to prevent production stoppages or more severe consequential damage. But replacing a cable takes time. Lapp, cable manufacturers in India has addressed this problem: Thanks to its Fast Connect technology, the new ETHERLINE® PN CAT.6A  Fast Connect has clear advantages over other cables when it comes to installation and assembly.

Thanks to a cross separator that separates the four pairs of wires and an inner sheath the cable does not need pair screening. Unlike with conventional cables, there is no need to remove a film screen from all four pairs of wires. As a result, Fast Connect cables are quick and easy to assemble. The special tool from Lapp, which prepares the cable optimally for connector assembly in a single operation, saves even more time. The new shielding also ensures a long service life.

Minimum work when connecting devices, easy assembly with a single tool and a high data transmission rate: The ETHERLINE® PN CAT.6 Fast Connect from Lapp combines all these important properties. The new high-speed cable is ideal for customers in the machinery, plant and equipment manufacturing sector and can be used in industrial and building networking wherever large data volumes have to be transmitted.

At 10 gigabits per second, the ETHERLINE® PN CAT.6A  achieves the current maximum transmission rate for copper cables in an industrial environment. All Lapp Profinet cables are compatible with one another and with those from other manufacturers.

The ETHERLINE® PN Cat.6A  is available in seven versions: three for fixed installation (Type A) with flame retardant PVC sheath, halogen-free and flame retardant with FRNC sheath or with PUR sheath (halogen-free, flame retardant and with increased mechanical strength). In addition, Lapp supplies two versions for flexible use (Type B) with PVC sheath or halogen-free and flame retardant FRNC sheath, as well as two solutions for highly flexible use (Type C) with PVC sheath or PUR sheath. Four further versions have reduced dimensions for use in constricted applications. The different sheath designs and diameters allow the cables to be used in a huge range of applications.

Ethernet Cable Categories|Buy LAN Cables India

ethernet

The network connections operate either wirelessly or through cables. While WiFi helps to minimize the clutter due to chord, cable connections are usually faster and less prone to lag. You would have realized this when you buy LAN cables India.

All Ethernet cables serve the same basic purpose which is to connect devices to networks, like the internet.

Ethernet cables are the standard cables used to connect a computer network system. The different Ethernet cable types connect a modem to a router/ LAN, a router to a computer’s network interface card, etc.
You can easily spot these cables as they are thick and flexible, for example, you will see their ends connected to the back of our computer equipment. Even though they look similar, but there is a variety of different types of Ethernet cables. Mentioned below are the different categories.

Categories

Introduced in 1980, Ethernet cables have been developing and adapting to the uses and needs. The different categories are designed with varying specifications. You will find the difference in shielding from electromagnetic interference, bandwidth frequency range and data transmission speed. The physical differences include gauge size, jacket, and internal cable structure.
These differences affect the cable’s quality, speed, and distance.

Category 3 Cable

Cat3 Ethernet cable is one of the veterans of Ethernet cables still in use today.

It can carry 10 Mbps data/voice transmission, with a max bandwidth of 16MHz.
These days it is been used in two-line telephone systems. Cat3 cable was the industry standard for computer networks in the 1990’s.

Category 5 Cable

After Cat3, Cat5 cable came into the picture. It is a UTP cable with improved transfer rates. With the bandwidth of 100MHz, the category 5 cable introduced the 10/100 Mbps speed to the Ethernet.

Being the first Fast Ethernet-capable cable. Cat5 is used for Ethernet data, video and telephone signal.

Category 5e Cable

‘e’ stands for enhanced, since the Cat5e is an enhanced version of the cat5 cable.

It is known to eliminate the unwanted transmission of signals between data channels.

This cable enables speeds up to 10/100 Mbps with bandwidth 100MHz and utilizes all four twisted pairs of wires (unlike Cat5 which utilizes only two of the pairs). Cat5e is the most widely used in the industry, with reduced crosstalk.

Category 6 Cable

Known for better transmission performance than Cat5e. As it is designed to handle up to 10 Gbps (gigabits/sec) with bandwidth 250MHz.

With additional features such as improved insulation and thinner wires, that allow for the higher signal to noise ratio. They can also handle electromagnetic interference better than Cat5e cables.
These cables are available in UTP or STP (shielded twisted pair) configurations. Like Cat5e cables, Cat6 cables are backward compatible with Cat5 and Cat5e cables. Cat6 is suitable for commercial applications.

Category 6a Cable

‘a’ stands for augmented. The improved features include 10,000 Mbps data transmission rates with bandwidth 500MHz. This cable is typically available in STP and requires specialized grounding connectors.

Category 7 Cable

Also referred as Class F cable. This cable is fully shielded and allows for speeds up to 10 Gbps and bandwidth 600MHz.

Cat7 is a thicker cable that is harder to bend, due to the added shielding. Each shielding layer must be grounded in order to assure performance is not affected negatively. Specialized connectors are needed.

Limitations of Ethernet Cables

Like an electric power cord, a single Ethernet cable, has a limited maximum distance capacity, meaning they have an upper limit to how long they can be before attenuation (signal loss) happens. This is due to their electrical transmission characteristics and is directly affected by interference around the cable.

Therefore while you buy LAN cables India, you need to consider all these factors into consideration.

What are Control cables?

Control cables are used to transmit transmissions to and from devices. These are found in a huge number of different day to day processes and application, from ensuring our everyday processes work effectively, to huge automation; industrial processes and much more work effectively and efficiently.

Industries such as construction, transport, and communications are all growing at high speed, meaning each and every part that contributes to these sectors is important – applying to industrial control cables especially.

When acquiring the cables by companies within many industries, they have to ensure that they are getting cables of supreme quality, with one hundred percent accuracy.

Uses of an Industrial Control Cable India

Control cables are used in a huge number of industries and applications that are involved with electricity flow. Each one of the cables is designed for a specific purpose of interconnecting separate equipment and to control and regulate signals when used for these purposes.

There are a number of different types of the industrial control cable, with each one specific to the types of needs that are required. These cables will be able to take a lot of pressure and power, ensuring that they can cater for an applications power becoming increased.

Types of Control Cables

Three main types of control cables are CY cable, YY cable and SY cable – each of which are more suited to different types of applications, conditions, and levels of stress.

Control cables are flexible instrumentation cables designed as interconnecting cable in signal and control equipment, perfect for measuring, controlling and regulating transmissions.

  • CY Cable

CY control cable works most effectively for applications that require interference-free transmissions. The multi-core flex has a tinned copper wire that is braided and Polyethylene Terephthalate separator which help protect the control cable from electromagnetic influences and a degree of mechanical stress. CY cables from LAPP, control cable India come in both low smoke halogen free and PVC versions and each installation should have the correct cable used.

  • YY Cable

YY control cables are used in space-saving installations due to their small cable diameters and have increased flexibility due to short twisted conductor layers. They are very versatile and work well in situations of light mechanical stress. The situation with light mechanical stress and is suited to most environments, meaning that it can be used outdoors so long as there is protection applied to keep it safe in both dry and moist conditions.

Choosing the right Connector| LAPP, Connector Manufacturers India

12308293_705613786206152_8213429797016092798_nLet me start with the confusion while selecting any connector for automotive and heavy equipment applications. In the present scenario, you will find numerous options and a little research can help you a long way with LAPPConnector Manufacturers India

Your safety aspect is defined by your electrical connections, which makes it even more important to choose the best in business. The maintenance cost would automatically reduce if you invest in the right product.

Let’s take a look at labour, time and money that can be saved by making good electrical terminal and connector decisions. Factors to be taken into consideration while selecting the connector cable.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

If the environment is susceptible to extreme high and low temperatures, or excessive moisture and debris, such as construction or marine equipment, you will want to choose a sealed connector system.

Therefore depending on the place and the mechanical stress, this connector is going to withstand, the connector is chosen.

Safety is the top priority when you deal with the cables and its connectivity. Your connector must be able to work efficiently at variable temperature and not break down. An ideal expectation from any electrical component.

SPACE:

As the size of the electrical equipment is becoming smaller, we find the rising need for smaller sized connectors to compliment. Some connections inside vehicles, terminals and mobile equipment use very small connections because space is very limited.

LAPP, Connector Manufacturers India is doing the commendable job by constantly challenging the present system and providing cables and accessories which can handle the extreme environment and consume less space.

 APPLICATION:

The connector in use can vary depending on the work requirement. Each piece will use the connector differently. Consider the location of the new connector and the space available in the equipment.

If you consider a GPS unit, will often use a multi-pin connector, instead of a single wire-to-wire crimp. Onboard computers or sound systems uses Metri-Pack connectors. The knowledge of this will help you get your electrical devices installed as quickly as possible. Look online to see the best cables and parts of your circuit system.

WIRE GAUGE & COMPONENT SIZING:

You might need to know the exact size of the wire gauze to make the connection. If you are connecting a wire to a stud, like in battery connections, you will also need to know the stud size. Eyelets, battery lugs, ring terminals and spade terminals are all sized by wire gauge and stud size.

Wire gauge and stud size both are very important parameters to be taken into consideration.

Taking the time to assess these four factors will help ensure you choose a connector that will serve you well for years to come. LAPP, Connector Manufacturers India has a wide range of cables and accessories that comply with the above parameters.

Flat cables by LAPP, Cable Manufacturers India

Let us go through the history of flat cables and understand how LAPP, cable manufacturers India is bringing a change using the flat cable technology.

If you open up your computer, you will find the flat cables. Also known to be the ribbon cables which is used for data communication. Flat cables have evolved to avoid becoming obsolete in the digital era.

Introduction:

As the name suggests these cables are known for the flat structure with many conducting wires running parallel to each other. These cables gained traction as soon as they were introduced in the market. Designed with the objective to replace large, inflexible round cables in a computer system in 1956. By 1960, NASA started incorporating ribbon cable in the aerospace application. The flexibility which this cable provides by taking up little room makes it ideal for use on multiple platforms.

The competition between the cable manufacturers India has led to increased quality and lower cost of installation. LAPP, cable manufacturers India has been constantly working towards standardization, which has created a positive impact in the current market.

Flat cables are chosen as the best option, when the application would require different media types such as data, power, signal, video, air and even liquids, reducing the unwieldy and large round cable designs. They are best suited for the application which involves continuous flexing, tight routing and repetitive motion, such as robots, festoon, and automated processing equipment.  This, in turn, reduces the size of the cable track needed.

Structure:

Let us focus on the flat cables classification, which is based on two factorials, one is the spacing between the conductors while the other is the number of conductors in use. You will find a huge number of options for flat cables, however, the standard “pitch” which is the spacing between the two conductors is 0.05 inches while the conductor count ranges from 4 to 80 conductors.

Ribbon cables did find its application for both interior and exterior computer connection. However, it did not continue to be used for exterior connection as it was ideal only for tight spaces. Another disadvantage being the capability of the cable to block the airflow affecting the cooling process.

Flat cables eliminate wire coupling issues because wires are protected individually and not wrapped many times, with low weight and small bend radii these wires offer greater flexibility. These wires consume 50% lesser space than the round cables, therefore, find use in high priority applications. Common applications include military, aerospace and medical systems.

The research team of LAPP, cable manufacturers India, is constantly working towards developing and redefining the cable technology. And with the huge range of applications, these cables are part of the development process.

5 Trends in Connection Technology

1)The trend towards intensified networking and miniaturization:

2017-10-23

Digitalisation is changing the connection technology environment in the sense that an increasing number of products and even individual components can and need to communicate. This means that an increasing volume of data has to be transmitted at increasingly fast speeds – something familiar in offices for years is now moving into the factories. Continuous increases in the performance of microchips is not only driving digitalization but also – in conjunction with efforts to improve resource efficiency – is resulting in a move towards increasingly smaller and more compact products and devices. A smartphone now has the processing power of a 1990s supercomputer but has a fraction of the size, energy consumption, and price. This is having a big impact on industrial connection technology. Robots and other machines are becoming more compact and demanding an increasing number of data connections. Special cable designs and technical tricks, with the insulation, for example, help to save space. As a result, we are seeing an increasingly frequent use of hybrid cables, which combine the power cable, data communication cables and even hoses for pneumatics and hydraulics in a single sheath. Where large data volumes are being transmitted, one high-speed Cat.7 Industrial Ethernet cable can replace several slower varieties and one fiberglass cable can replace even more copper-based ones. Connectors are also having to slim down. Circular connectors are getting leaner, and modular connector systems combine numerous contacts for different cables in a single housing. Special materials and optimised internal cable constructions are also necessary for other reasons, as the standard cable types used in offices are simply not suitable for production environments. In those environments, the cables have to withstand lubricants, hot vapors, millions of bends and torsion.

2)Connectors instead of direct wiring:

 2017-10-23 (1)

A TV set today, a vacuum cleaner tomorrow – on the same production line. Industry 4.0 means that production is becoming more modular and flexible. Individual production modules are exchanged or rearranged in next to no time. This has consequences for the connection technology. While electrical connections were previously fixed, soldered installations that were subsequently not touched for many years, today’s flexibility calls for connectors that can be disconnected thousands of times and still create a reliable contact. Connectors are also becoming more modular. They combine contacts for high currents – for drives for example – with Gigabit speed data connections and in some cases even with pneumatics or hydraulics. Everything is easy to configure and can be reassembled again and again, for example, if a machine is upgraded.

3)The trend towards system solutions:

 2017-10-23 (2)

Industry 4.0, Internet of things, open innovation processes: the tasks facing machine builders are growing remorselessly. This makes it even more important for companies to concentrate on their core competences. These do not normally include assembling cables – shortening cables, attaching connectors and creating complete energy chains. As a result machine manufacturers are increasingly demanding tailored ready-to-use assemblies that they can easily incorporate into their machines. Ready-to-use assemblies are also more durable as the supplier guarantees the quality of the entire system, and the user does not have to worry about installation errors such as forgotten end sleeves or damage to the insulation. With assemblies direct from the manufacturer, customers can also benefit from expert know-how and always be sure the technology they use is top notch. The development work that manufacturers of connection systems engage in would not be economically viable for users. Which does not mean, however, that the challenge is less significant for the manufacturers? They have to introduce efficient, ideally automated processes and must be capable of quickly delivering highly complex customised one-off solutions. This requires more than just changing priorities in the traditional quality, cost and time framework. Today’s optimum processes bring about improvements in all three dimensions.

4) DC replacing AC:

 2017-10-23 (3)

AC’s days are numbered. On the one hand, photovoltaics generates direct current, which is converted into alternating to be fed into the network and, on the other hand, an increasing number of electronic devices (TVs, computers, smartphones, LED lights etc.) demand direct current, which first has to be rectified from the AC network – this raises the question of whether it still makes sense to use AC. The conversion involves huge energy losses – numerous power stations could be shut down if DC voltage networks were to be installed in industry and households. Of course, bringing about the paradigm shift is not as easy as it may sound. Conventional switches and connectors are not suitable for DC voltage because the polarity of the voltage does not change and there is no arc breakage when switching off – this is hazardous. New connectors and automatic switch-off mechanisms are needed, but these issues can certainly be resolved. There are challenges for cable manufacturers too. There are strong indications that the plastics used for insulation and cable sheaths age differently under the influence of the fields generated by the direct current. Research projects are currently exploring these issues.

5. Coexistence of cable and wireless

2017-10-23 (4)

These days, wi-fi is almost ubiquitous in households, while the wireless technology for data exchange is also gaining its adherents in factories. Wireless technology is generally cost-effective and offers great flexibility when systems are modified. However, this does not mean that data communication cables will no longer be used, as some people are predicting. On the contrary: advancing electrification and networking in factories will, if anything, require even more cables to guarantee the high transmission rates. In addition, cables have the edge where data reliability and latency are important, as industrial production is based on strict cycles and information has to be reliably transmitted in the millisecond range. This is very difficult to achieve using wireless solutions without disproportionately high costs. This is because multiple wireless connections can easily interfere with and eliminate one another and can also be interrupted by moving objects such as forklift trucks. The data communication cables are also less susceptible to malicious disturbances or hacker attacks. As a result, there is little prospect of wireless technology pushing out cable-based systems in the future – in fact they will increasingly complement one another.

LAPP India, one of the leading cable manufacturers in India, has been able to set the trend in terms of quality, while you make any purchase of the electrical equipments.

THE ART OF CONNECTING

INDUSTRIAL FIRE PROTECTION CABLES

988574_643401862427345_7426989079600266168_nThere should be no argument that workplace safety is important. However, sometimes it is unintentionally overlooked. This leaves workers on the job site exposed to risks. One of the most dangerous casualties that can occur at an industrial unit is a fire outbreak. Elimination of fire hazards can be done by each worker before, during and after their tasks are being accomplished.

The subject of fire protection is also very important to investors when they erect buildings or purchase production facilities, not least due to statutory regulations. A further problem lies with fire spreading via the cable routing paths installed in industrial units. Here, careful selection of the materials utilized is important. This has led to the awareness of cables and wires used in industrial units. Nowadays there are cables that have low smoke gas development in the event of a fire, produce less (visible or invisible) toxic gases and do not conduct the flame like a fuse. Today, they are combined with the term fire protection cables. In the event of a fire, they improve the chances of survival of people and reduce the health risks associated with the inhalation of smoke.

Different kinds of industrial hazards that can cause a fire outbreak are:

Combustible Dust:

An insidious threat is a combustible/flammable dust. This unmitigated dust which can lead to violent flash fires and explosions. There have been hundreds of dust fires and explosions over the years, many causing catastrophic loss of life and property.

Oil&Gas:

In industrial units, oil and gas can trigger fire and explosion at any time due to ignition of flammable vapors or gases. Flammable gases, such as well gases, vapors, and hydrogen sulfide, can be released from wells, production equipment or surface equipment. Ignition sources can include static, electrical energy sources, open flames, lightning, cigarettes, cutting and welding tools, hot surfaces, and frictional heat.

Chemicals& Lubricants:

A fire can also be triggered due to a chemical reaction that ignites a solid, liquid, or gaseous chemical compound.

Electrical Sparks:

Exposed wiring, overloaded circuits, and static discharge can cause a spark which can thereby serve as an ignition source for combustible dust, as well as flammable liquids and gases.

Role of inflammable cable technology in industrial safety:

In order to curb the above risks and the resulting damage, the cable industry has developed highly inflammable, halogen-free cables, heat resistant cables which meet heightened safety requirements. Halogen-free means that these cables are completely free of the reactive elements bromine, iodine, fluorine, and chlorine.

This has many advantages:

  • There are no corrosive gases released. Irritation of eyes and the respiratory tract is greatly reduced. Aggressive chemical compounds are also not formed with the extinguishing water. This means that substantial secondary damage is not caused to the building and the electrical installations due to corrosion.
  • The proportion of toxic gases is low. Dioxins are no longer emitted from burning cables.
  • Halogen-free Flame Retardant cables with improved performance in the event of a fire are extremely flame-retardant and allow for little spreading of flames. The dreaded fuse effect does not occur, the focus of the fire does not extend beyond the location of the fire.
  • Halogen-free cables with improved characteristics produce little smoke in the event of a fire. Escape routes and extinguishing routes for the fire brigade are hardly impeded by dense smoke.
